People Groups

Minneapolis is a city of great diversity with people from many different countries, cultures, and ethnic groups. The city is home to many immigrants and refugees.

Somalis

Minneapolis and Saint Paul are home to the largest Somali population outside of Somalia. Many Somalis here came as refugees during the beginning of the Somalian Civil War. Somalis are culturally and religiously Muslim.

Latinos

Minneapolis has Latinos from several different countries including Mexico, Ecuador, Columbia, Honduras, and Brazil.

Native Americans

There is a rich history of Native Americans in this region of Minnesota. There has been a lot of pain as the result of tragic historical events including massacres of Native Americans. There are over 39 different tribes living in Minneapolis, many of whom live in the Little Earth housing community.
